“More Than Verse” by Krish Mahajan

Krish Mahajan, a 10-year-old, a voracious reader and a keen observer who dreamt of being an author when he was 8. His first thoughts on paper were a discovery of an unexplored potential that gradually cemented his determination to publish his compositions one day. After endless hours of writing Krish brings to you his debut creation “More than Verse.”
In addition, Krish not only enjoys writing but is also a budding guitarist who is gradually carving his way toward creating his own music.
Currently, he is busy cooking stories for his next creation.

In this interview with the author, we learn about the journey behind “More Than Verse.”

Can you tell us a little about your book?

This book is my humble attempt to express my thoughts and feelings, joy in the simplicity of everyday occurrences, the unconditional love of a mother’s love, a soldier’s sacrifice, even an alien invading us, the extraordinary teachers during the pandemic, and the blood-curdling mysteries. All are a part of my first book. Hope you enjoy it.

Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this an out-of-the-blue idea?

I derive my inspiration from ordinary things. What may appear “mundane” to some, somehow manages to strike a chord with me.

What got you writing in the first place?

I have always been a very avid reader and I had this knack for looking at objects and making a poem or a story on them. Then I thought, “why not,” and I drifted my thoughts on paper.

What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?

My immediate thought was the next sequel.

Which part of your story connects the most with you? Why?

I think my poem on Time resonates with me strongly. Rather it would find a connect with anyone. It talks about an ordinary wall in one’s home and how with time it has witnessed many changes and yet stood like a “rock”.

Did you ever get stuck?

I remember this time few months back … as they say” writer’s block”. Got a little stuck but found my inspiration again after a quick get away.

What makes your book the one to read?

The readers would find everything in it such as joy, suspense, humor, sorrow, aliens, and something relatable for everyone.

What was the best advice you got while writing?

The only advice I got was “Write, just write. Don’t worry about what happens in the end. Enjoy the process.”

Who’s your all-time favorite author? Which book of his/hers made you fall in love with them?

Agatha Christie and PG Wodehouse as the murder and humor inspired me.

What is your evergreen tip to the writers out there?

“Write, just write. Don’t worry about what happens in the end. Enjoy the process.”

What was your hardest scene to write?

Putting Thomas behind bars as it felt abrupt to suddenly catch the criminal.

Do you have another plot brewing?

I may have something under my sleeve, but hold your horses as I’m not spilling the beans!
